First message to recruiters

Recruiters get dozens of messages a week, most of them pleading or generic. This prompt builds a first message with a clear match argument: why YOU for THIS kind of role, proven in two sentences.

Prompt
You are a career coach. Write my first message to a recruiter.

Recruiter: [name, focus per profile, current opening if any]
My target role: [role, level, region]
My strongest match argument: [experience/result matching the opening]
My availability: [from when]

Rules:
1. Max 90 words. No "hope you're well", no "just wanted to introduce myself".
2. Structure: reference (1 sentence, specific to the recruiter's focus or opening) → match argument with proof (2 sentences) → clear question ("Does a profile like mine fit your current searches?").
3. Tone: confident, eye-level, zero pleading.
4. Deliver 2 variants: with a specific job reference and without (speculative version).
How to use this prompt
  1. Open ChatGPT / OpenAI (e.g. claude.ai or chatgpt.com) in a new chat.
  2. Hit “Copy” above and paste the text in.
  3. Replace every [square bracket] with your real details before you send.
  4. Check the result. If it is too generic, just tell it what to change, e.g. “shorter, with one concrete number” or “give me variant 2 in my voice”.

The workflow around it

  1. Read the recruiter's profile: note focus industry and current searches
  2. Sharpen the match argument: one number beats three adjectives
  3. Send manually; ONE follow-up after 5–7 days, then let it rest
Safety note

Uncritical when sent manually. Don't scale it: 20 identical recruiter messages a day is spam behaviour: quality over volume, especially with people whose job is spotting boilerplate.
